Abstract

Because of the remarkable results obtained during the last few years, "Pyrethrins" have attracted the attention not only from the academical interest, but also from the economical point of view. Comprehensive studies on the insecticidal constituents of pyrethrum flowers are reviewed, especially the unexplained questions in this field and the new problems proposed by the newly synthesized pyrethroids are discussed. The chrysanthemum-monocarboxylic acid, about 50 kinds of its esters and the lower alkyl- and alkenyl-homologues of cinerin are synthesized by the author. The toxicity and general nature of the so-called synthetic pyrethrins are discussed.
