抄録: In Japanese, the instantaneous verb "shiru" (which means "know") behaves differently from another verb morphologically. Normal Japanese verbs such as "yomu" (in English "read") conjugates like "yomdeiru" in negative progressive form. But instead of negative progressive form "shitteinai", the form "shiranai" which is a normal negative form is usually used. The form "shiranai" is not always used for negative progressive form "shitteinai", however. According to syntactical or semantical circumstances, negative progressive form "shitteinai" is used. In this paper, I analyze the Japanese instantaneous verbs from the angle of three temporal points which all verbs have, start time, finish time and reset time, first. Especially, I introduce the phenomenon that an instantaneous verb behaves like a continuance verb. This is termed "contiunuancizing of an instantaneous verb". Second, I describe the behavior of the instantaneous verb "shiru" and analyze this on the supposition that "shiru" has two sort of lexicons, one of which is a normal lexicon and another of which is a "continuancized" lexicon. Finally, on the assumption that "shitteinai" is able to be used, I explain why this form can't use in the particular environment.
