In recent decades, urbanization, modernization, economic development and natural disasters have caused many traditional garden houses in the Vietnamese city of Hue to be demolished or reconfigured. It is important, therefore, to develop a sustainable approach to conserving these houses and adapting them to contemporary use. This paper selects the house at No. 9 Ngo Thoi Nham Street as a case study to discuss and analyze the spatial organization, transformation and conservation of these traditional houses, the living environment they provide and the lifestyles of their inhabitants. We hope that this paper will be a useful reference for the further study of traditional garden houses in general.en
