振舞いのデコールム --15世紀中葉における舞踊の表象と教育的効果--

Abstract

15世紀の前半, アルベルテイは『絵画論』のなかで, 歴史画に描かれる人物に明確な感情表現を求めたが, これらの人物には品位もともなうべきであると主張し描かれる人物に対してだけでなく, 画家本人の資質に対しでも「適正さ」を望んだ. 一般的に, 振舞いのクライテリアは, 16世紀になってようやく, カステイリオーネをはじめとした著述家たちによって記述されたとされている.本論文の自的は, その前史である15世紀において振舞いはどのように論じられていたのか, またそれはどのように眼差されていたのか, 絵画の内と外, 双方において振舞いがもっていた社会的影響力を明らかにすることである. そのために, いずれも15世紀の中葉に著された『絵画論』と『舞踏論』そして人文主義者による教育論の記述を検討したその結果, この時期の振舞いが古典の学識に裏打ちされた道徳的な価値観と密接に結びついたものであることが明らかとなった. さらに, 同時期に制作されたカッソーネにくり返し描かれた対照的な振舞いのイメージを検討することで, こうした振舞いを眼差す観者との関係を考察した.

Leon Battista Alberti (1404-72), the author of "On Painting" (1435), asserted that the movement of figures is required in order to show emotional expression in narrative paintings. But on the other hand, he also suggested that the movement, while expressing emotion, should keep with its decorum. This definition demanded that both the depicted figures and the painter himself have appropriate (=decorous) behavior. It is generally thought that it was not until the 16th century that this code of behavior was written down by the authors such as Castiglione. This paper aims to show how the behavioral movements were discussed and how they were perceived by viewers prior to Castiglione's writings. I attempt to reveal the significance of movements (both depicted and actual) among educated people. For this purpose, I examine the following mid 15th century texts: Alberti's "On Painting", three different "On dancing" texts and two humanists educational treatises. As these texts show, the behavior during this period was closely related to ethics, particularly Aristotelian ethics. In addition, I consider the relationship between movements and viewer's perception by examining contrastive dance images depicted repeatedly on cassone panels during this period.
