文明観の再定義としてのアジア高地文明試論 : 東部ヒマラヤでの地域研究に期待するもの

Abstract

アジア高地は, 地域体系の核となる人々が暮らす土地である在地ニッチの集まりが, 古くから現在まで, 中国文明やインド文明である低地文明と接触してきた. その結果, アジア高地の在地ニッチが存在の危機にさらされることにより, 低地文明の外圧に拮抗するように, 内圧をたかめるために国家, 地方, 地域などの制度をつくりだす文明ニッチを上部構造として, 高地文明を発展させてきたと, 私は仮説的に考えている. 本稿では, まず日本語で表現される現代の文明(西洋文明)の本質は, 都市文明であり, 農村の都市化であったことを明示する. そして, 私のアジア高地文明の特徴を確信する契機となった2008年夏の青海省での生業, 暮らしと自然の景観に関する見聞に触れる. 結論として, アジア高地文明のエッセンスは, 従来の都市文明では捉えられず, 農村文明であること, 老人にあるという私の考えを提示する.

The ZAICHI Niche or "Niche to exist locally" is the land where the local people make up the core of a local system lives. The ZAICHI Niche of the "Asian High Altitude" has been interacting with the Lowland Civilizations such as China and India since ancient times. Accordingly, group of ZAICI Niche has developed the Highland Civilization as an upper structure for institutions such as "Nation", "Locality" and "Region" to act as the "inner counter-pressure" against the "outer presser" coming from Lowland Civilization, which has tried to assimilate the people of the Asian High Altitude. This paper explains why the concept of GENDAI NO BUNMEI or Modern Civilization in Japanese (=Western Civilization) means the urban civilization of the "Rural". It discusses this process based on my experience of listening to the peoples of the natural landscape in Qinghai of China as well as observing their lives. Finally, it argues that the essence of Asian Highland Civilization cannot be explained by traditional civilization concepts like Urban Civilization, but it is better considered in from the perspective of "Rural Civilization" and the "Aged People".
