竹久夢二の人形制作活動 --｢雛によする展覧会」の成功とアメリカでの挫折--

Abstract

本稿は, 昭和初期に於ける竹久夢二の人形制作活動について論じる. 昭和五年(1930), 夢二はどんたく社同人を率いて人形の制作方法を模索し, 銀座資生堂ギャラリーで「雛によする展覧会」という人形の展覧会を開いた. 出品者らが皆アマチュア作家であったにもかかわらず, この展覧会は大きな反響を呼び, 出展作が完売するほどの好評を博した. 一方で, この大成功の一年後に夢二がアメリカのカーメルで開いた展覧会に於いて, 出展された人形や絵画作品は全く売れることはなかった. 本稿では, 夢二主催のこの二つの人形展, 「雛によする展覧会」および, カーメルでの展覧会の成功や失敗の原因を検討することで, 人形制作活動が夢二の生涯においてどのような意味を持ちうるのかを明らかにしたい.

This paper discusses the doll production activities by Yumeji Takehisa in the early Showa period. In 1930, Yumeji led the "Dontaku Sha" to explore the doll production. And then they held the "Hinaniyosuru Tenrankai" exhibition of dolls at Shiseido Gallery in Ginza. Despite their amateur production, the exhibition was greatly acclaimed while the exhibition works were sold out. One year later, regardless of the former success, Yumeji sold none of the exhibition works in another exhibition at Carmel, USA. In this paper, we clarify the meaning of doll production activities to Yumeji by analyzing the success and failure of these two exhibitions organized by him.
