Abstract

The Rwenzori Mountains are located on the boundary of Republic of Uganda and Democratic Republic of the Congo and the third highest mountain of Africa with glaciers at a height of 5109m. This area has a large amount of rain due to so much steam supplied from Lake Victoria, and the mountains can be rarely seen from the surrounding area and villages. So it has been called "Illusional Mountain of the Moon" for a long time. It is also known as the source of River Nile. This paper aims to introduce a mountain range that contains various interests and wide diversity in the middle of Africa, by reporting climbing activities at Mt. Stanely of the Rwenzori Mountains in February 2012. The Rwenzori Mountains comprise more than 20 peaks, and the highest peak of Mt. Stanley is called "Margherita". Approaching the high camp involves walking through the deep, humid jungle and reaching the summit requires technical walkings on the glacier and the rocky ridges. This means the Rwenzori Mountains have many attractive factors for both the adventure and climbing.
