dc.description.abstract | The recent status of practical applications of obliquely deposited thin films is reviewed. Owing to the anisotropy in polarizability of elongated nanocolumns, obliquely deposited thin films in the form of assemblies of aligned nanocolumns show anisotropies in various properties, such as birefringence, dichroism, and magnetism. In addition, we introduce examples of practical applications: thin film waveplates, angular selective coatings, Au nanorod arrays for surface-enhanced Raman scattering, and low-reflectivity wire-grid polarizers. | en |
