インド、ブータン国境の聖地巡礼 -アルナーチャル・プラデーシュとメラの事例から- (特集3: 雲南懇話会からの寄稿)

Abstract

インドのアルナーチャル・プラデーシュ州西端に位置するタワン県、西カメン県とブータン東部のタシガン県の山岳地帯には、地元の人びとが聖地として崇める場所が数多く残されている。この国境地帯は、かつてはチベットの中心部からモン〈mon〉あるいはモンユル〈monyul〉注1）と呼ばれ、周縁の辺境の地と見なされてきた。本稿で取り上げる聖地は、モンユルの文化遺産として、また仏教のヒマラヤ南麓への伝来の黎明期を偲ばせる重要な場所でもある。筆者は、1999年以来これらの聖地を巡ってきたが、インド、ブータンそれぞれの地政学的な状況や近代化などの影響で、聖地と人びととの関係にも明らかな変化の兆しが見える。本稿では、地元に残る伝承などを紹介するとともに、その現状を報告する。 There are various sacred places where the local people have been worshiping in Tawang District and West Kameng District of Arunachal Pradesh in India as well as the mountain area of Trashigang District in eastern Bhutan. Both areas used to be called Mon or Monyul by the people of central Tibet and were considered marginalized remote areas. I have been visiting these sacred places since 1999. There are clear indications that the connection between these sacred places and the people has changed with the influence of the geopolitical situation and the modernization process. In this paper I introduce the traditions inherited by the local people and describe the present situation under the following five topics: 1. The birthplace of Tibetan Opera － Ḍākiṇī Drowa Zangmo 2. The abode of Goddess Ama Jomo － under rapid transition 3. Tsholung Gonpa － ruins of the temple and mysterious lakes along the border 4. Shrinking lake － Dangling Tsho － a natural phenomenon or the wrath of heaven? 5. Present situation in the birthplace of the Sixth Dalai Lama
