Introduction: Since 2005, the Non-profit Organization, Community-Based Rehabilitation Support Group for people in Tay Ninh province, Vietnam, has been coordinating with a local hospital, the Peace Village Hospital (PVHp), a local health-care center and local independent organizations to give practical guidance to Vietnamese medical staff in the PVHpl and Community Based Rehabilitation workers (CBRw) by about 20 Japanese staffs for annual one-week volunteer activities in Hao Duoc Village of Tay Ninh province. Purpose: The purpose of this project is to improve medicine and health care situation of people in Hao Duoc Village, Vietnam. Methods: 1) Giving clinical and practical guidance for medical staff of the Peace Village Hospital in Hao Duoc Village. 2) Upbringing of CBRw by coordinating with the local health center, the Peace Village Hospital and the local independent government. 3) Giving advice about health and welfare policy for local organizations. Results & Discussion: As a result of more than 10 years of assistance, the Vietnamese medical staffs deepened their understanding of the importance of community-based health care and intervention. CBRw are working diligently for local people with disabilities and their families. However, understanding and community-based intervention of care and rehabilitation toward functioning and challenges of people with disabilities are still developing. In addition, there are still few places and opportunities that people with disabilities and their families can use to socialize each other and other residents in Hao Duoc Village. Therefore, we need to keep coordinating with the Peace Village Hospital, the local health center and the local organizations to promote social participation of people with disabilities and their families.ja
