京都大学ヒマラヤ研究ユニットの発足 (特集1: ヒマラヤ研究ユニット)

Abstract

Unit for Himalayan Studies, a new interdisciplinary group for education and research in Himalayan region was launched in April, 2016, under Center for the Promotion of Interdisciplinary Education and Research in Kyoto University. Twenty-nine faculty staffs out of 13 graduate schools, institutes and research centers in Kyoto University joined to the unit as founder members. The unit is based on long history of researches and friendships of Kyoto University in Himalayan countries, especially in Bhutan. The purpose of the unit is to promote interdisciplinary research and education on Great Himalayan regions across Pakistan, India, Nepal, Bhutan and China. The first remarkable event for Unit for Himalayan Studies was to accept honored guests from Royal University of Bhutan (RUB) to Kyoto University on 11-14 July, 2016. Eleven delegates from RUB visited Kyoto University to strengthen the relationships between RUB and Kyoto University. A plenary symposium was held in Clock Tower Hall on the first day, and the delegates visited several graduate schools, institutes and research centers in Kyoto University to discuss the ways of collaboration individually on the second and third days. On 14 July, the last day of their visit, we had a concluding meeting of the future cooperation between two universities to promise the further corresponding and planning. Unite for Himalayan Studies continues every effort to combine researchers, students and other members of Kyoto University who concern to Himalayan region, and to establish a platform for working together.
