<特集論文 2>序 共同体を記憶する-- ユダヤ/「ジプシー」の文化構築と記憶の媒体

Abstract

本特集の目的は、ユダヤと「ジプシー」というふたつの共同体に属する人々の記憶の諸実践を事例として、他者のまなざしを取り込みながら自らの集団的な枠組みをつくり出してきた人々の記憶のあり方について考察することである。ユダヤ人と「ジプシー」はいずれもナチスによる虐殺というトラウマ的な記憶を抱える共同体でありながら、前者は文字文化、後者は非文字文化が強調され、それが国家建設を含む集団形成や集団的な想起のあり方の違いとして受けとめられがちであった。しかし、身体化され語られない記憶、限られた身内のみに共有される記憶、マイノリティの権利や承認を求めて物語化される記憶、資料館や博物館の収蔵品のようにものの陳列や収集によって主体化を免れる記憶、など異なる種類の記憶の形式がどちらの集団にも存在している。本特集では、これらの異なる種類の記憶の形式が、異なる地域(フランス、ルーマニア、アメリカ合衆国、アルゼンチン)のユダヤ人と「ジプシー」の間で、どのような媒体を通して何を契機に発現し、共同体像を形成しているのか、具体的な事例を通して検討する。流動性が高い環境にある人々が、他者と共有することが困難な経験を、分有可能なネットワークの中に位置づける試みとして記憶の諸実践をとらえ、それを促す記憶の媒体について考察を深めてみたい。

This special issue aims at considering the ways of remembering by those who have made their group frameworks by taking in the looks of others, by examining remembering practices of two communities, the Jews and the "Gypsies". Both the Jews and the "Gypsies" have traumatic memories of genocide by the Nazis. It has been pointed out that there are differences in the ways of making groups, which include state building and collective remembering, by stressing literacy of the Jews and orality of the "Gypsies". However, there are different kinds of memory in both groups such as tacit memory embedded in bodies, memory shared only among families and relatives, memory following narratives to seek for minority rights and recognition, and memory in displayed or collected materials which can go beyond a single remembering subject. This special issue argues in what occasions and through what media of remembering these different kinds of memory emerge and form community images by looking at specific cases of the Jews and the "Gypsies" who live in different places (France, the U.S., and Argentina). Each paper of this special issue considers various practices and media of remembering as attempts of those, who live in environments of high mobility, to situate experiences difficult to share with others in partially shared networks of remembered objects and remembering subjects.
