dc.description.abstractFrom October 21st to 27th, 2017, Kyoto University invited honored guests from the Kingdom of Bhutan to celebrate Bhutan & Kyoto University 60th Anniversary. The members from the Kingdom of Bhutan were Her Royal Highness Princess Sonam Dechan Wangchuck, Mr. Chencho Dorji (Major General, Royal Bodyguard of Bhutan), Mr. Sangay Dorjee (Dean, Jigme Singye Wangchuck School of Law), Mr. Tenzin (Legal Officer and Personal Secretary to the Hon'ble President, Bhutan National Legal Institute), and Ms. Rinzi Pem (The National Coordinator of Bhutan, The United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women). They participated into an international symposium "Bhutan & Kyoto University 60th Anniversary Memorial Symposium", organized by Kyoto University. As the keynote address of the symposium, Her Royal Highness said "Japan and Bhutan are thousands of miles apart from each other, but the long-standing and close friendship between our two peoples has always made us feel much closer. Our relationship is based on a common spiritual heritage, our shared respect for the institution of monarchy as symbol of unity, reverence for our cultures and traditions that gives us unique identities, and many other shared social values. The people of Bhutan have always held a strong affection for Japanese, and have always celebrated the success of your great nation." During the visit, the guests of Bhutan had the meetings with Prof. Juichi Yamagiwa, President, Kyoto University. Her Royal Highness met Her Majesty the Empress Michiko, His Imperial Highness the Crown Prince Naruhito, Prince Akishino, Princess Akishino, Princess Aiko, and Princess Mako.en
