抄録: In the preceding paper, an investigation of the citizens' attitude towards educational systems was made as part of the COC project and it turned out that citizens are very interested in educational issues, as residents of Kansai Science Park which is still under construction as a governmental project. In the present study, a further investigation was made on residents' awareness of city construction as a science city. For this purpose, several meetings to exchange opinions among citizens were held and as a result of repeated questionnaire survey, the following conclusions were led. It is certainly true that people are interested in the governmental policy on local creation. However, peoples' greatest concern is the construction of a world-leading city as a science park. In fact, recent statistics show that Kansai Science City is, in its size, twice as much as the world-famous science city, Silicone Valley in California, U.S.A. On the basis of the above result, the present author suggests that the central institution responsible for its construction should always keep the above in mind and cooperate with the citizens whenever possible. It is also suggested that Kyoto University, as one of the core institutions in this science city, still has to make further efforts and keep working in order to attain its creation as a model of future science park city.
