<論説>天ツ神族・国ツ神族と双分組織 (特集 : 共同体の諸問題)

Abstract

わが上古の伝承史料に見える天神・国神の区別は神々の分類範疇であると同時に、その子孫たる氏々に関する社会構造上の二大分類でもあつた。この種の分類はいわゆる双分組織の類型に属すると考えられる。双分組織なるものは原始社会・古代社会に広く見られる血縁的協同体で、社会構成上氏族と部族との中間に位する集合単位である。この組織は結婚規制をはじめ宗教的社会的政治的軍事的の各方面にわたる各種の機能を持つものであるが、社会進度に応じて色々な変異形態を示し、社会的政治的拡大成長に随つてやがて消失する。わが天神・国神の問題もかかる視角から解明せられるべき幾多の課題を含んでいるように思われる。

The Amatsu-kami (天ツ神) and the Kunitsu-kami (国ツ神), the two different geneologies of gods of ancient Japan, were not only the divine categories but also the principle of division of the ancient social structure. Such a classification belongs to the type of so-called dual organization. It prevailed in the ancient society as a blood relation and occupied a mid-way position between the clan and the tribe. It had many functions from the matrimonial to the politico-military regulation. The religious rites were also one of their functions. But the social development caused many deviations of the categories which at last was curtailed before the social and political forces of the succeeding generations.
