抄録: A fuel cell operating without humidification and driven by hydrogen transfer via fluorohydrogenate anions, (HF)nF⁻, has been constructed using a room-temperature ionic liquid (molten salt), 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium fluorohydrogenates, EMIm(HF)nF. The open-circuit voltage was ~1.1V under the flow of hydrogen and oxygen gas at 298K. Polarization behaviors of the H₂ anode and O₂ cathode in EMIm(HF)₂.₃F revealed satisfactory performance as a fuel cell electrolyte.EMIm(HF)₁.₃F , which is thermally more stable than EMIm(HF)₂.₃F and does not liberate HF even at 373K, exhibits significantly improved polarization behavior by the elevation of the operation temperature.
