頼山陽における茶の湯と煎茶

Abstract

本稿は, 江戸後期の文人・頼山陽(1780年-1832年)による茶の湯批判について再考し, そのうえで彼の煎茶観の解明を試みるものである. 山陽の煎茶趣味について言及している評伝的研究や煎茶の文化史研究のすべてが, 山陽による茶の湯批判について論じている. それは山陽がしばしば煎茶と茶の湯とを対比し, 前者の後者に対する優位を説いているからである. それゆえ, 山陽の煎茶を理解するためには, 彼の茶の湯批判についても考察しておく必要があるだろう. ところが, 先行研究の多くは, それらが山陽の煎茶を主題に論じるものはないこともあり, 山陽が茶の湯批判を行っている史料を紹介しているのみで, それらの史料についての解釈を十分に行っていない. それゆえ, 山陽の茶の湯批判の理由も明らかにされてこなかった. また, 山陽の煎茶観についても論じられていない. そこで, 本論では, まず山陽の茶の湯批判の理由を解明することにする. その際, 山陽の歴史観や経世思想からの影響を考える必要があるだろう. というのも, 山陽が茶について論じる際, しばしば山陽が歴史記述や経世論に用いる術語を使用しているからである. 反対に, 歴史記述や経世論にも茶に関する記述を確認することもできるのである. これまでの山陽研究では, 芸術や趣味に関するものと, 歴史/政治思想に関するものとが, 別々に進められてきたように思われるが, 実際にはそれらの問題は渾然とし, 引き離して論じることができないことが理解されるだろう.

This paper is to reconsider the criticism of Chanoyu(茶の湯) by Rai Sanyo(頼山陽, 1780-1832) and to clarify his thought about Sencha(煎茶). Sanyo's sencha have been mentioned in biographical studies and in studies of the culture history of sencha. And all of them discuss Sanyo's criticism of Chanoyu. This is because Sanyo often compares Sencha and Chanoyu, and emphasis the advantage over the latter. Therefore, in order to understand Sanyo's Sencha, it is necessary to consider his criticism of Chanoyu. However, previous studies only cited historical materials, and did not fully interpret them. So, many problems have been left about Sanyo's criticism of Chanoyu. In this paper, we will first clarify the reasons for criticizing Chanoyu. In doing so, it will be necessary to consider the influence of Sanyo's view of history and his political thoughts. This is because when Sanyo discusses Tea, he often uses the terminology used in historical and political writings. Conversely, we can also find descriptions about tea in those. Studies about Sanyo seem to have been conducted separately for his arts and hobbies, and for his historical and political thoughts. However, in fact, we will understand that those issues are confused and cannot be discussed separately.
