「文字通り」の手続き的意味について

Abstract

本稿の目的は発話解釈の観点から「文字通り」の機能を考察し、これを単⼀の手続き的意味として規定することにある。「文字通り」は「後続表現の構成要素の意味を強調する」「後続表現を字義的に解釈させる」をはじめ、籾山(2014)や用例観察に基づく記述からは多数の機能が想定される。このとき、「文字通り」の機能を多義として規定するか、より⼀般的な手続き的意味から派生された用法群として解釈するかで2通りの説明が可能であるが、本稿の目的に鑑みて筆者は後者の立場を採用する。そして、その機能を「パラ言語的情報を参照し、後部要素の非帰属的メタ表示を形成せよ」という手続き的意味として同定し、関連性理論(Wilson & Sperber 1995; Wilson 2000)の枠組みから後部要素の解釈プロセスを説明する。

The purpose of this paper is to discuss the function of moji-dori ('literally') from a view of utterance interpretation. According to Momiyama (2014) and other studies, there can be several functions such as "drawing attention to the constituents of the modified elements", "interpreting them as literal meanings". There are two possible explanations for the function of moji-dori; one is to specify it as a polysemy, and the other is to interpret it as usages derived from a more general procedural meaning. For the purpose of this paper, the author would take the latter way and propose the procedural meaning of moji-dori as "forming a non-attributive metarepresentation of subsequent elements via para-linguistics information (i.e. orthographic form)", providing a relevance-theoretic account of the detailed process of interpreting the subsequent elements (Wilson and Sperber 1995, Wilson 2000).
