フィリピン海研究の最近の地質学的成果と課題 --特にGDP-8,11次航海に関連して--

Abstract

A block of basaltic tuff was obtained at a seamount of the Kinan Seamount Chain. A number of manganese nodules which contain gravels of acidic plutonic rocks, andesic tuff, and a few fsandstone gravels were dredged at a seamount of the Kyushu-Palau Ridge. A number of giant foraminifer fossils, Nummulites boninensis, were collected from the Amami Plateau, and many manganese nodules containing gravels of andesite, basalt, tuff, and plutonic rocks (granite-gabbro) were also dredged at the plateau. Based on these findings a few of working hypothesis concerning the history of the Northern Philippine Sea were discussed in brief.

国際地球ダイナミクス計画(GDP)は, 西太平洋の海底の地質学的研究においても, 予期以上の成果を収めつつある. 特に, 九州-パラオ海嶺や奄美海台における花崗岩質岩や安山岩, 奄美海台でのヌンムリテスなどの採取の意義は大きい.
