| 抄録: | In recent years, the close relationship between literature and history has been discussed in the study of literature and history in the West. Kafka on the Shore by Haruki Murakami is a case in point, a novel whose characters have been tossed about by the tragic history of the 20th century. Their memories of tragedy become communal memories shared by the reader through this story, as the characters find catharsis for their bitter memories in the rich natural environment of Shikoku. Kafka on the Shore, which transmits personal memories of 20th century history from the past to the future, is a story of the repose of the soul and rebirth. |
