dc.description.abstractThe groundwater surface at the seepage from a canal into the deep groundwater table is proposed by Kozeny, but the problem with respect to the shallow groundwater surface is not presented. This paper explicitly proposes equations of the groundwater surface caused by the seepage from a canal built on the ground with symmetrically disposed collectors at some depth under the earth surface and also the seepage from a canal constructed near the lake. The equations are, however, based on some assumptions, one of which is that there exists no water depth in the canal. The experimental examination is then carried out about the shape of groundwater surface, the rate of recharge and so on. As a result, considerable amount of additional rise of the water table, almost equal to 20〜30 per cent of the height calculated from the analytically proposed equation, must be taken into account in the calculation of the actual groundwater level.en
