「体育会系」学生の就職活動をめぐる戦略と制約 --アメリカンフットボール部員へのインタビュー調査から--

Abstract

本論文では、アメリカンフットボール部に所属する学生へのインタビューを通じて、彼らの就職活動において「体育会系」であることがいかに作用しているのかを検討した。第一に、就職活動初期段階では OB ネットワークなど部活動で得られた資源が有効に活用されていた。他方でその背景として、部活動への専心により他の資源が不足していることから、結果として OB ネットワークの活用へと水路づけられてもいた。第二に、採用面接では「体育会系」として自己提示を行い、採用担当者から肯定的な印象を引き出していた。他方で、そのような「体育会系」イメージはそこから逸脱する自己像を提示することを困難にもしていた。このように、体育会系学生は OB ネットワークや肯定的イメージなどの資源を有効に活用する一方で、「体育会系」であるがゆえに、一般的な学生が取りうる他の選択肢から排除されているという両義的な側面が示された。

In Japan, there exists a social perception often referred to as the “athlete student myth, ” which suggests that students with experience in sports activities can gain an advantage in job hunting. Through interviews with members of the American football team at X University, this paper investigates how athlete students utilize resources gained from their sports activities at college in their job searches. First, the interviewees utilized alumni networks as a resource obtained from their sports club activities. However, this reliance was also due to a lack of other resources, such as time, knowledge, and experience, resulting from their dedication to club activities. Second, the interviewees recognized that recruiters held a positive image of athletic students, allowing them to make a favorable impression. Conversely, this advantage also has a dual aspect, limiting them from exploring other options available to non-athlete students. Although athlete students effectively use resources such as alumni networks and positive images toward them, this advantage also carries a dual aspect where they don't have other options available to non-athlete students.
