抄録: | India, which surpassed a population of 1.4 billion in 2023 to become the world's most populous country, has also become the fifth-largest economy by GDP globally, after Japan. As a prominent nation in the Global South, India's political and economic influence continues to grow. On the other hand, education is seen as key to addressing both its developmental challenges and aspirations for further progress. In particular, since the 2020s, a series of rapid educational reforms have been underway. For example, the “National Education Policy 2020” was introduced by the central government to outline its educational vision, and based on this, the “National Curriculum Framework for School Education 2023” (NCF2023) has also been revised. This paper aims to clarify the characteristics of “Social Sciences” in India s National Curriculum Framework 2023, with a focus on a comparison with Japan's national curriculum guidelines. As a result of the analysis, the following three key features of “Social Sciences” in NCF 2023 were identified: 1)the introduction of new concepts such as “competencies, ” “learning outcomes, ” and “PBL” (Project-Based Learning); 2)a crossdisciplinary perspective across the fields within social sciences (history, geography, politics, and economics); and 3)a focus on content that is relevant and familiar to students. |
