抄録: This study focused on the effects of the case method used in business school classes. Teacher-student interaction was analyzed via the case method in order to clarify how experienced teachers adapted the case method for use in their classrooms. This study involved analyzing teacher discourses with students at each phase of teaching, in order to determine how the case method was associated with in-class discussion. Analysis revealed that the students predominantly made statements and the teachers furnished explanations to determine the points put forth. Lesson topics, which were subordinate to the predetermined theme, varied with the content of statements from students, the same method of furnishing explanations being applied to discussions concerning the topic. The findings suggest that in classes where the case method was applied, it was important for teachers to base their discourse on the content of a student's statement. In-depth analysis of discussion-style lessons, however, would require more case studies.
