田辺湾における海況変動の観測(第2報)

Abstract

われわれは, これまで, 田辺湾の白浜海洋観測塔での水温の観測記録上に, 数日ないし十数日に一度という割合で見出される水温の一方的変移なる現象にとくに注目し, 海水交流に関するいくらかの推論を発展させてきたが1)・2), 3), この現象の実態を確実にとらえるためにはやはりこの湾における海況変動の観測をすべき'であるという考えから, これまで幾つかの観測例を積み重ねてきた。その一部はすでに前報墨)に報告したが, その後1966年8月に行われた観測の結果をここに報告する。この観測で初めて, 観測塔に現われた水温の急激な変化が, 湾外からの海水の流入にともなっていることをかなりはっきりと見出すことができた。著者らは, このような湾外からの海水のつっこみ(intrusion)が, 全体的な湾内外海水の交流に最も大ぎな役割を果しているのではないかという立場をとっているのであるが, この点に関する知識はなお十分でなく, 今後の観測の集積と研究とに期したいと考えている。

A series of oceanographic survey carried out in Tanabe Bay in August 1966, isanalyzed together with the continuous records of sea water temperature observed atthe Shirahama Oceanographic Tower Station.An abrupt ascent of sea water temperature of nearly 1'C occurred within about tenminutes at the Tower Station on August 7. It seemed that a water of lower salinity andhigher temperature flowed into Tanabe Bay and passed through the Tower Station, causingthe abrupt ascent of water temperature. The horizontal scale of this water mass was atleast 2 or 3 km long. The intrusion of this water mass brought an unstable baroclinicfield in the bay, and this unstable field changed into a more stable one in a few days.This process was considered to be a density flow due to the density difference betweeninside and outside the bay.
