白浜海洋観測塔沖の潮流観測

Abstract

Tidal currents were observed at a station (32 m deep) off the Shirahama Oceanographic Towerby using a mooring system of a current meter (13.5 m above the sea bed) and a tide pressurerecorder (1.5 m above the sea bed). The site of the station was located in the area where thecontinental shelf is connected to a wide-open bay, Tanabe Bay. The observed results were ana-lysed to find time variations of currents, comparing those in tide levels, water temperature andsalinity. Significance was semi-diurnal variation which was caused mainly by the action of theastronomical tides. A little effect of breeze was notified and a little resonant mode of the baywas found. Any internal wave with estimated stability obtained from the observed salinity andwater temperature, can not be a possible cause of the resonant mode. The observed currentswere scarcely affected by the distant Typhoon 8507.
