Abstract: Frequency of hydrologic data in the Lake Biwa basin is analyzed with a graphicalfitting procedure which the authors improve (make more precise and more objective) using acomputer system with a graphic display. The accuracy of the improved procedure is discussedin comparison with the solutions given by the maximum likelihood estimation method. Fiveprobability distributions with two parameters are fitted to the data and the most suitable distri-bution for the variate concerned is selected by SLSC (Standard Least-Squares Criterion) whichis proposed in this study. Systematic analyses reveal the regionality and seasonality of thevariates.
