清末中国民众私塾就学率的考察

Abstract

China's old-style private schools had been major people's educational institutions before the modern school system was established. However, the level of popularity of the private schools has not been clear by education researchers because of the lack of historical data. In this paper, using local records of private schools of various regions and the latest research results on china's population, try to calculate the rate of private school enrollment in that time. These are the questions to be explored in the paper. First, this paper investigated average number of children in private schools according to materials on the history of private schools. Second, it defined private school-age period and calculated the number of private school-aged children. Third, it estimated private school enrolment ratios of some counties in the end of Ching Dynasty and discussed this result.
