The purpose of this paper is to examine how subjects experience stories through sandplay therapy. Twenty-four university students were each required to create a scene in the sand in a sandbox and to write down stories or fantasies that came to his/her mind through this process. Each subject was then interviewed about the experience, and the data from the interviews were analyzed by the Modified Grounded Theory Approach. As a result, three patterns of relationships between subjects and stories were identified. (1) The fantasies were objectified from the subjects. (2) The subjects were absorbed into their fantasy worlds. (3) The subjects held their fantasies within their minds.en
