抄録: The present study aimed to consider the concept of "Ibasho" in clinical psychology. First, it was examined how the term "Ibasho" acquired the psychological meaning, i.e., a place of safety. Originally, "Ibasho" had only descriptive meanings, such as the place a man exists. From the 1980s, for children not attending school, places where they can stay in safety were provided, and such places began to be called "Ibasho." Thus, the term "Ibasho" acquired its current meanings. In clinical psychology, it was emphasized that "Ibasho" was a place where one can be as he is. It was considered that in a therapeutic relationship between a client and a therapist, there was a problem of dependence when "Ibasho" became an issue between them. A client's dependence on a therapist may let him express the pathological part of self. Moreover, the possibility was mentioned that a client who did not have "Ibasho" throughout history repeatedly experienced that he could not get "Ibasho" in the relationship with his therapist. Future research topics are also discussed.
