<論文>ナヴァーイーにおける翻訳 : 『友愛のそよ風』を例に

Abstract

In this paper, we consider 'Alī Shēr Nawā'ī's Nasā'im al-maḥabba, a collection of biographies of Islamic saints. It is widely recognized as a Chaghatay Turkic translation of 'Abd al-Raḥmán Jāmī's Nafaḥāt al-uns, originally written in Persian. However, detailed comparison between the two texts has not been carried out. To begin with, we argue that this text is not necessarily addressed to those who do not understand Persian, for the following reasons : 1. Persian was undoubtedly a lingua franca in the Timurid society, where Nawā'ī created his literary works; 2. When necessary, the author often asks the reader to consult the original Persian text; 3. Most of the verse quotations contained in the Persian text are rendered in their original form with no translation. Further, the structures of the two texts are compared, focusing on those biographies added by Nawā'ī, together with their possible sources. Our analysis suggests that what Nawā'ī intended to reproduce in the Nasā'im al-maḥabba was not so much the contents of the original Persian text itself, but rather the literary activity of Jāmī, who composed his Nafaḥāt al-uns as a continuation of the biographical tradition going back to eleventh-century Sulamī's Ṭabaqāt al-Şūfīya.
