抄録: | The present study investigated discrepancies between recalled parental expectations and degrees of their perceived fulfillment by university students. Participating were 181 students from two Japanese universities, 82 males and 99 females, mean age 18.9. They were asked to fill out a questionnaire of 15 items on a five-point rating scale. Each item was structured in the same way with the use of two questions: "When you were a child, did your parents expect you to ... ?" and "Do you think that you have fulfilled their expectations?" The mean fulfillment score was higher than the expectation score on 12 items. The largest discrepancy appeared in the item "understand that a lie may sometimes be excused, " in which the recalled parental expectation was low and the degree of perceived fulfillment of it was higher. An exploratory factor analysis was conducted on the 15 items, each with the two questions, and five factors were extracted: two on expectation items (General and Special), and three on fulfillment items (Activeness, Maturity, and Assertiveness). No factor was found in which expectation and fulfillment items mixed. A structural equation modeling showed a valid structure of these factors, except for Special Expectation. |
