dc.description.abstractThis study aimed to clarify a meaning of the learning from a gap to occur in the English class of an elementary school. I observed the English class of an elementary school and extracted the scene where a child was puzzled. Firstly, a child was puzzled on how to reply. The gap that the child felt confused which occurred due to the rule that an English teacher brought into the class. The gap dissolved with replies received from other children, the teacher's evaluation and by positive intervention of the classroom teacher. Secondly, a child was puzzled on how to express English in Katakana. English and Katakana are quite different, so children were at a loss, and wanted to know the expression of other children. They gradually made expression by themselves, and accepted the expression of others. That is, "gaps" clarify the learning that is characteristic of English education in an elementary school. Further, there are two kinds of the learning either it intervention of the classroom teacher is effective, or not.en
