抄録: | The aim of this paper is to explore what a secret is for psychotherapists by reconsidering the obligation to keep official secrets in clinical practice. First, I define a secret as "a seed for transformation" to question what a secret means in psychotherapy. Then, I reconsider the obligation to keep official secrets in clinical practice. I reveal that psychotherapists struggle in a paradoxical situation about secrets, and I also define the paradox of a secret. I then find that this paradox has two dimensions: the two-person relationship in fundamental psychotherapy and the relationship with surroundings like the institution and or system. I also found entangled in each of these dimensions a double paradox. Through considering three vignettes from my clinical experience, I clarify the process whereby psychotherapists come to realize the paradox of a secret. And I find a clue to "keeping it a secret" in a clinical practice situation, which is a theme in this paper, by learning from Zeami's well-known words. I conclude that the work of the psychotherapist is "living the paradox of the secret" and that a "secret" in a psychotherapeutic relationship is the psyche itself. |
