抄録: Universities are confronted by many problems. The most critical problems are risks of isolated efforts of universities and lack of resources. Because those problems are too hard to solve by the universities themselves, the networks of universities are very important. In this paper we classify the patterns of organization in universities according to network theory of organization, and study the problem of those organization. We show that the absence of faculty network, which is the ties between professors, is the most serious problem. In order to construct faculty networks, referring to the case of Kyoto University, changing organization across each conventional faculty field or establish units which consist of interdisciplinary professors are effective. However, these schemes depend on the awareness of teachers, and the efforts by single university alone has limit. Here, we assess leadership of presidents and cooperation of universities. In spite of full of criticism, the leadership of president can make teachers more autonomous and get the faculty network more efficient. Cooperation of universities enables universities use financial and human resources and also enables networks more wide. Cooperation of universities can serve as "talent bank" of teachers.
