dc.description.abstractProblems and therapeutic elements in group psychotherapy conducted at Japanese medical institutions to help employees on sick leave for depression to return to work were investigated through a literature search and case studies. The results indicated that the following types of program have been implemented: insight-oriented type programs, problem-solving type programs, programs facilitating non-verbal and body expression, and programs facilitating verbal expression. Based on these considerations, the "concept of classifying social/psychological models of group psychotherapy for returning to work" is illustrated and support methods using the following models are indicated: non-verbal self-insight model, non-verbal functional model, verbal self-insight model, and verbal functional model. Furthermore, the roles and aims of each model in the complete therapy procedure were examined based on a case study of group art therapy that took the characteristics of the four models into consideration. It was suggested that comprehensive and organic support were required through the programs. In addition, there is a need to clarify patients' problems and self-help resources, as well as consideration of the content, procedures, and effective directions for operating these programs.en
