dc.description.abstractThe mechanism underlying the psychological changes in sandplay therapy is still under investigation. This report presents an overview of research regarding the client's psychological changes in sandplay therapy in Japan and discusses some points. Research findings regarding client's psychological changes were arranged into 5 groups: (1) case studies, (2) studies about therapists, (3) studies about verbalizing sandplay, (4) studies about the sand, miniatures, the sand tray, and the therapeutic space, (5) studies about movements in clients' minds and their subjective experiences. The results indicated that it is necessary to focus on the client's dynamic movements in their minds by taking account of longer temporal axes and their psychological changes by facing themselves. It is necessary to investigate the psychological dynamics, time and facing themselves in sandplay therapy in future studies to determine the mechanism underlying psychological changes in sandplay therapy.en
