抄録: | The ability to appraise and regulate emotions appropriately plays an important role in leading successful social lives. This ability has been conceptualized as "emotional intelligence." The general public as well as academia have shown considerable interest in this construct. In contrast, this construct has also been criticized for its conceptual validity. One of the frequent criticisms is whether emotional intelligence is really a kind of intelligence. Based on this criticism, some researchers proposed that people should call this construct "emotional competence" rather than "emotional intelligence." Nevertheless, there have not been sufficient discussions about the conceptual distinction between "emotional intelligence" and "emotional competence." It remains unclear what kinds of content each concept indicates. Based on this background, this paper discusses conceptual distinction between "emotional intelligence" and "emotional competence, " referring to what kinds of content each "intelligence" and "competence" originally indicated. |
